About the Role

BWXT, Nuclear Operations Group - Lynchburg is seeking experienced professionals for the role of Health Physicist or Radiological Engineer. This position involves challenging and diverse radiation protection activities supporting numerous nuclear technologies at an NRC Category I Licensee. The role is on-site in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regulatory compliance assessments and radiological safety oversight.
• Provide radiological site characterization and remediation support.
• Perform internal dose assessments and environmental release modeling.
• Conduct radiological evaluations for configuration management of new or changing facilities, equipment, processes, and procedures.
• Perform routine surveillance, inspections, and audits to ensure compliance with agreement State and Federal License requirements.
• Provide radiation protection professional input and oversight to operating areas.
• Maintain and operate computer codes for Shielding, Bioassay, Environmental Dispersion, Emergency Response, and other related tasks.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or a related engineering or science degree.
• Wide industry experience such as CNMT, NPP, Uranium, and TRU is desired.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and undergo periodic drug testing throughout employment.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) "Q" clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) is preferred.

Pay

The base salary range for this position in Virginia is expected to be between $76,000 and $119,000 per year. The base salary offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. The total compensation package may also include an annual cash incentive and a full range of medical, retirement, and other benefits.
