About the role

Responsibilities
- Investigating radiation hazards in the full range of RP assignments
- Aiding in developing and implementing metrics to measure the effectiveness of the operational RP Program
- Aiding in developing, implementing and evaluating administrative and engineering controls to protect Laboratory personnel from radiological hazards
- Aiding in developing and implementing monitoring programs to measure the buildup of radioactive materials in the workplace
- Maintaining the integrity of radiological engineering controls
- Ensuring the incorporation of RP concepts and policies into Laboratory designs to protect workers, the public and the environment
Qualifications
- Entry level knowledge of Health Physics principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
- Ability to interpret LANL and industry regulation guidance to determine LANL or facility compliance with regulations
- Under general supervision, provide radiological safety-related support to programmatic and facilities missions and milestones
- Under general supervision, act as a technical SME for operational health physics programs, e.g. air monitoring, radiological engineering controls; metrics, etc.
- Entry-level experience responding to radiological incidents and emergencies
- Entry-level experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting radiological safety/protection
- Entry-level skills to conceptualize and communicate fundamental elements of radiological safety/protection to both technical and non-technical personnel
- Entry-level skills in the preparation and presentation of radiological safety/protection reports
Skills
- Working knowledge of Health Physics principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
- Working knowledge of operational Health Physics including contamination control, external exposure control, airborne radioactivity monitoring
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- At least one year working in a Nuclear Facility
- Active Q clearance

Pay
The starting salary range for Health Physicist 1 is $96,600 - $158,000, and for Health Physicist 2 is $106,400 - $176,000. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The position is for SHIFT work. This position may require 24/7 coverage, which could involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.
