About the role
The Health Leave Coordinator (HLC) is a non-clinical position in the Office of USC Campus Support and Intervention (CSI).
Responsibilities
- Supports students and their families in the process of taking a Health Leave of Absence (HLOA) from the University.
- Helps constituents determine the appropriateness of a HLOA, as well as determine the necessary steps in requesting a Health Leave.
- Administers the leave and supports the student through the administrative and logistical issues associated with the leave and return processes.
- Collaborates with campus partners and academic units to determine an individualized health leave plan and a supportive return plan.
- Determines the readiness for a student to return from leave and, on a case-by-case basis, collaborates with campus partners on the student’s readiness, and recommendations for when a student returns to the USC community.
- Assists the CSI team in supporting students, faculty, and staff in navigating other university processes, respond to crises –individual and campus-wide, and assist families of those in distress.
- Performs caseload analysis of all HLOA cases in order to ensure a timely and thorough response, and identify and present best options and solutions for students who require a HLOA and CSI support.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in psychology or related fields such as MA, MSW or MFT preferred, a master’s from an accredited institution in higher education student affairs (e.g., Master of Education or Master of Science) will be considered.
- Licensed or within 6 months of completing licensure requirements.
- A minimum of one year of post-graduate professional experience in a clinical or university setting preferred.
- Experience in the area of case management support and crisis intervention with the ability to calmly manage multiple situations and projects at the same time.
- Experience working with a diverse student population in higher education.
- Demonstrated proficiency with university policies, protocols and databases.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, written and oral communication skills, and listening skills.
- Proven interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop good stakeholder relationships and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and family members.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, deftly handle time-sensitive matters, meet strict deadlines, and accomplish high-profile and sometimes confidential tasks.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and be able to undertake multiple tasks simultaneously.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field; MA, MSW, or MFT preferred.
- Master's in higher education student affairs (e.g., Master of Education or Master of Science) will be considered.
- Minimum of two years in the area of case management support and crisis intervention.
- Five years preferred.
- Ability to calmly manage multiple situations and projects at the same time.
- Experience working with a heterogeneous student population in higher education.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, and an exemplary attention to detail.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Ability to develop good stakeholder relationships and work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and family members.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, deftly handle time-sensitive matters, meet strict deadlines, and accomplish high-profile and sometimes confidential tasks.
- Demonstrated proficiency with university policies, protocols, and databases.
- Demonstrated experience with office management software/tools (e.g. Google suite, Slack, Skype).
- Ability to present ideas and solutions in non-technical, business-friendly terms and translate complex ethical, legal, and compliance concepts.
