Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with physicians and hospital staff to assure completion of records that meet all regulatory and facility requirements.
  • Reviews and responds to the daily fatal error reports for HIM related issues.
  • Answers inquiries from internal and external contacts regarding information recorded in patient’s medical records, within all departmental policies and guidelines.
  • Responds appropriately to any potential HIM issues.
  • Reports/records HIPAA incidents in a timely manner & investigates to determine if breach of confidentiality occurred.
  • Performs timely audits on medical charts to ensure documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Prepares/audits the medical records post discharge to assure all required documentation is present.
  • Accurately records and monitors departmental deficiency rate and maintains rate below 30%.

Requirements

  • Education: Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in health information management required, prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Licenses: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required. Valid driver's license preferred.

Qualifications

  • May be required to work flexible hours.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and attention to detail skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record systems.
