Responsibilities
- Provide Provider Coding education, including ICD-10 CM diagnosis selection and sequencing and appropriate E & M level selection, to the Enterprise.
- Work cooperatively with physicians and mid-level providers, Physician Enterprise leadership, provider billing leadership and others to ensure that CHS/Trinity-employed providers appropriately code the medical services that are provided.
- Introduce new providers to the coding program requirements across CHS/Trinity and provide any needed training.
- Audit new providers at 100% until they attain an 85% accuracy rate, then move to the standard auditing program.
- Create, disseminate, and provide education on new ICD-10 CM diagnosis codes as well as CPT-4 procedure code updates with provider billing services and Revenue Integrity.
- Offer support for various coding-related initiatives as needed.
Requirements
- CPC, CPC-P, RHIT, or CCS certification is required.
- Preferred: CEMC certification.
- Three (3) years of coding experience utilizing electronic encoders/references, and compliance software.
Qualifications
- Evidence of coding competency.
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, Evaluation and Management (E/M), anatomy and physiology, and medical terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with CH associates, medical staff, department managers, and Finance.
- Superior written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven track record to develop/maintain policies and procedures.
- Professional skills related to leading by example, organization, prioritization, organizational integration, and coordination.
- Visual acuity for oversight of computer encoders, groupers, on-line references, Electronic Health Record.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computers, software, hardware, and technological advances.
- Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency to generate reports and collect data.
- Problem-solving skills, excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to respond to diverse scheduling and availability of associates and physicians to adjust schedules to accommodate needs of others.
- Ability and willingness to coach staff with negative behaviors and/or knowledge deficits, or reach out to others with ability to coach/assist these staff members in improvement.
