About the role

BronxWorks provides a range of services—including workforce development, children, youth, families, seniors, and homeless prevention—across 60+ locations. The Sexual Risk Avoidance Education (SRAE) program delivers health education to teens and adolescents in the Bronx, aiming to reduce adolescent pregnancies and STI transmission through the MAD (Making A Difference) curriculum and adult‑supervised activities for middle‑school‑age youth (10‑13 years). The program also offers parenting education classes for parents, guardians, and caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, high‑quality training and service provision to adolescent youth.
  • Use evidence‑based models to screen and assess the educational needs of the adolescent population.
  • Plan and implement community outreach and activities, including:
    • Promoting program services to the community and adolescent youth.
    • Delivering judgment‑free training classes using evidence‑based pregnancy‑prevention models.
    • Facilitating educational workshops that promote positive youth development.
    • Participating in community outreach events.
  • Identify and screen candidates for Component 2 (Volunteer Mentoring) of the SRAE program.
  • Deliver judgment‑free workshops to parents, guardians, and caregivers of children enrolled in the program.
  • Provide assistance and/or referrals for youth to obtain comprehensive family‑planning, health, or other support services as identified.
  • Perform other work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, or a related health field.
  • CHES®/MCHES® certification preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescent youth is required.
  • Strong writing and public‑speaking skills.
  • Follow‑up and computer experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency preferred.
  • Advanced‑level professional competency in written and spoken English.
  • Authorization to work in the United States for any employer.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods.
  • Ability to climb five flights of stairs if required for home visits or fieldwork.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects or documents.
  • Ability to travel throughout New York City boroughs and adjacent counties via public transportation, including a minimum of 1 mile travel in all weather conditions for field work.
