What The Role Is About

Health data is generated across a fragmented landscape of hospitals, specialist offices, laboratories, imaging centers, wearable devices, and wellness programs. The Health Data Integration Lead owns assembling a comprehensive, real-time clinical picture that enables more engaging delivery of personalized care. This individual owns the entire integration layer (system-to-system and user-facing), from the system map to live data flowing into the application for every clinical system our client touches.

You will build and maintain the integration layer with consistent resource modeling and query/data pipelines, working across the full integration surface: clinical messaging, real-time database change capture, patient-authorized data access, wearable device streams, and the HIE ecosystem.

Expertise Areas

• Hands-on experience with Striim, Mirth Connect / NextGen Connect, Redox, FHIR APIs: resource modeling, RESTful queries, SMART on FHIR authorization (both patient and backend service flows), HL7 v2 ORU, ORM, ADT.
• Strong understanding of healthcare data standards: HL7 v2, FHIR R4, SMART on FHIR, CDA / CCDA.
• Prior work with Epic’s or other EHR API ecosystem or Redox integration in a production environment, not sandbox experimentation.
• Comfort working close to infrastructure: on-prem hardware, network constraints, no managed cloud.
• Experience with patient data privacy requirements: HIPAA, data minimization, audit logging.
• A bias toward ownership: you identify what is broken before being asked, and you fix it.
• Experience with PGHD platforms (Terra API, Validic, Apple HealthKit, Google Health Connect).
• Familiarity with HIE network participation (CommonWell, Carequality, eHealth Exchange).
• OAuth 2.0 and JWT, specifically the backend services (client credentials with asymmetric key) flow used in system-to-system EHR integration.
• Azure Health Data Services or equivalent FHIR server configuration experience.
• HIPAA-aware engineering: understanding of PHI, why audit logging is non-negotiable, and how access control enforcement must live at the API layer.
• Strongly Preferred Experience with Redox Engine: data model normalization, webhook configuration, per-organization connection management.
• Laboratory system integration: Quest or LabCorp API, HL7 v2 ORU result handling.
• Pharmacy integration: Surescripts network, NCPDP SCRIPT standard.
• Payer FHIR APIs: CMS Interoperability Rule-compliant endpoints, SMART on FHIR patient access.
• DICOM or DICOMweb for imaging integration.
