Responsibilities

  • Provide evidence based nutrition and behavior change coaching, with an emphasis on stages of change, to help members implement dietary changes and connect the dots between food choices and outcomes (biomarkers).
  • Ensure high quality interactions to support members with personalized nutritional guidance primarily through chat-based coaching (nutritional ketosis via personalized carbohydrate intake with lifestyle changes that focus on sustainability) to achieve improved metabolic health, including weight loss, through member engagement.
  • Empathize, connect, and partner with members to ensure personal success and sustainability.
  • Keep members engaged, successful, and contribute to member retention by using various counseling techniques including, but not limited to, motivational interviewing and member-centered goal setting.
  • Collaborate with Virta Providers and other members of the care team to deliver a seamless and personalized experience to ensure member safety and success.
  • Uphold company values and maintain a strong team dynamic including sharing your specific expertise and skills with your teammates.
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment and able to adapt to changes and new information quickly.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience working with patients directly to create plans and set goals; including but not limited to outpatient nutrition counseling, motivational interviewing, community health, weight loss and/or bariatric centers, using and/or implementing various behavior change techniques, chronic condition/metabolic health coaching, health counseling, mental health counseling, etc
  • Chronic condition/metabolic health coaching experience OR recent completion of a coaching program, ideally NBHWC or ICF.
  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a health, behavioral health or other related field.
  • Strong technological literacy: ability to safely, responsibly, and effectively use various digital platforms to provide remote care for patients and communicate with teammates (includes texting, phone calls, video chats, instant messaging, Google Suite applications, Slack, Zoom, and strong typing skills)
  • High EQ and empathy with the ability to work with different personalities through times of change. Willing to ask for help and lean on teammates for support when needed.
  • Highly motivated, strong organizational skills, and an attention to detail to support your day to day workflow and help you stay on track during frequent and rapid iteration.
  • Passionate about working directly with members in the metabolic health space and willing to help others as a frontline care provider.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Demonstrates critical thinking, clinical judgment, and creativity in identifying and solving problems, keeping the goals and what is best for the member
  • Effective Communication: Personalized, clear, concise, and empathetic communication through various modes. Able to adjust communication style to fit the individual/audience.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Collaborates and shares knowledge, experience and best practices with others, willing to support the team where needed. Takes advantage of opportunities to learn from others as well.
  • Planning and Accountability: Ability to create plans, set goals, and hold individuals accountable to drive behavior change. Connect actions to progress and adjust plans/approaches as needed.
  • Comfort with Ambiguity: Comfortable working in changing conditions or when there is not a clear approach/information may be lacking. Demonstrates judgment and creativity is getting curious to gather information to execute.

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to work remotely.

Skills

  • Professional experience working with people living with type 2 diabetes, obesity, and/or other metabolic health conditions.
  • Experience coaching in the asynchronous setting.
  • Experience using a ketogenic diet/low carb nutrition as a therapeutic approach.
  • Experience working with members using MI/foundational coaching skills.
  • NBC-HWC or ICF certification.

Pay

Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. For this role, the hourly rate is $30 per hour.
