About the role
Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally, the HCA assists staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care Activities:
- Vital signs
- Activities of daily living
- Transport and transfer of patients, including discharge
- Clerical Support:
- Directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls
- Entering patient charges in the computer system
- Maintaining patient charts, unit files, and secretarial supply levels
- Maintaining a safe and orderly environment
Requirements
- Education: High School/GED required. Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course preferred.
- Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: Basic Life Support (BCLS) is required by the conclusion of orientation.
- Experience: Previous patient care and/or two years clerical experience with a successful work history. Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical positions as well as patient care aide positions will be considered.
