Health and Safety Technician

About the role

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Technician is responsible for assisting with ensuring compliance with MSHA regulations, safety training and education programs, and assisting with investigations into safety incidents. The role will also collaborate with the leadership team to improve safety protocols, coordinate emergency response drills, and ensure all safety documentation is up-to-date and readily available for audits and inspections.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with MSHA regulations.
• Assist in the implementation of corrective actions and safety improvements.
• Support the development and updating of safety policies and procedures.
• Monitor training expiration dates to ensure timely re-certification.
• Assist with the coordination and logistics of MSHA training courses, including new miner and annual refresher training.
• Provide support during incident and near-miss investigations by gathering information, documenting findings, and assisting with root cause analysis.
• Assist in the preparation of detailed incident reports.
• Participate in emergency response drills and help ensure all employees are familiar with safety procedures.
• Assist with the coordination of emergency response plans and equipment checks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 1-2 years of experience in a mining or industrial environment (preferred).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications.
• Valid driver’s license.
