Head Volleyball Coach

Core Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate the planning, organizing, and coaching of the team.
• Implement effective training and game strategies.
• Identify and recruit high-quality student-athletes who meet the academic and athletic standards of MVSU and the NCAA.
• Monitor and encourage the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA, SWAC, and University eligibility requirements.
• Prepare and manage the program’s operating budget, overseeing expenditures and adhering to departmental financial policies.
• Maintain strict adherence to all NCAA, SWAC, and University rules and regulations, ensuring staff and players are informed of all governing policies.
• Act as a primary representative of the program by engaging with media, alumni, and donors to secure resources and promote public support.
• Recruit, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and team managers.
• Care for the logistics of home and away game arrangements, including scheduling, travel, and equipment needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
• Significant coaching experience with a proven track record of player development and competitive success.
• Advanced knowledge of sport specific tactics, techniques, and strategies.
• Strong interpersonal and motivational communication skills.
• Proficiency in video analysis and modern scouting technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree.
• Competitive experience as volleyball player/coach.
• Successful head or assistant coaching experience at the collegiate level.
