About the role
The Custodian - Head Sweeper Elementary provides custodial services at an assigned site, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role involves performing specialized cleaning operations, overseeing facility preparation for classroom activities and campus events, and supporting assigned custodians to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g., classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools, grounds) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Delivers supplies, mail, packages, furniture, and other items to distribute materials within the site.
- Distributes custodial supplies and equipment to staff and/or storage locations.
- Lifts up to 80 pounds and may push/pull up to 150 lbs. for site maintenance, material distribution, and safety.
- Maintains supplies and equipment (e.g., cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuums, mops) to ensure availability for facility upkeep.
- Oversees facility maintenance activities and assigned custodial personnel to ensure compliance with site requirements and standards.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars to gather or convey information required for job functions.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., supply requisitions, safety inspections, work orders, inventory records, time sheets) to document activities and inform administration.
- Prepares the site for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways) to ensure facilities are operational and hazard-free.
- Requisitions equipment, supplies, and materials to maintain availability and complete jobs efficiently.
- Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms) by taking appropriate action or notifying personnel for resolution.
- Secures facilities and grounds (e.g., doors, gates, alarms, lights) to minimize property damage, equipment loss, or potential liability.
- Trains assigned personnel to develop professional trade and safety awareness skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- Age 16 or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience is required.
