About the Role
Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will oversee a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for all 21 Guilford College athletic teams. This role supports the college’s commitment to creating an academic institution where a variety of persons and perspectives are welcome, as well as to providing an environment where students from all cultures and backgrounds may succeed.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate all aspects of a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for all student-athletes and intercollegiate athletic programs.
- Collaborate with coaching staff on team-specific programming.
- Supervise and approve all team-specific strength and conditioning programming.
- Collaborate with Sports Medicine staff to educate student-athletes on injury prevention, reduction exercises, and rehabilitation.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities, Operations and Intramurals on scheduling usage of the Mary Ragsdale Fitness Area.
- Instruct and monitor student-athletes regarding proper weight training techniques.
- Ensure the safe operation of all strength and conditioning equipment through enforcement and implementation of policies and procedures.
- Provide nutrition education for all student-athletes within the scope of practice for a certified strength and conditioning coach.
- Oversee speed, agility, and flexibility training for all teams.
- Adhere to all college, NCAA, and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rules and regulations.
- Travel to away contests and manage limited game-day responsibilities for home contests as required.
- Work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or the Head Athletic Trainer/Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree.
- National Strength Coaches Association’s CSCS certification (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or equivalency.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience coaching strength and conditioning at the collegiate level.
- Commitment to recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and actively engaging with under-represented and underserved populations both on campus and in the broader community.
