Head Start Teacher

About the Role

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis Inc. is seeking Head Start Teachers to support our Head Start/Early Head Start program. This role involves planning and conducting classroom activities that provide individual developmental experiences for children, ensuring their health, safety, and personal welfare, and promoting parent involvement in the classroom.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct classroom activities tailored to individual developmental needs of children.
• Perform classroom teaching duties and ensure the health, safety, and welfare of assigned children.
• Provide direction for Teacher Assistants and parent volunteers.
• Promote and facilitate parent involvement in classroom activities.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in Early Childhood education.
• Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to child abuse and neglect and childcare licensing requirements.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, including recognizing situations requiring confidentiality.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to organize and direct classroom activities.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, children, and parents.
• Minimum of an associate or bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education, or equivalent coursework.
• At least three years of teaching experience with preschool-aged children.
• Must obtain Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification, Safe Food Handlers certificate, and updates as required.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Health exam, clear tuberculosis screen, Hepatitis A vaccination, and background check required for hire per program policies.
