Starting salary: $47,000 plus benefits. Full-time (40 hours per week), exempt position. Work schedule: Mondays through Fridays with hours varying by center. Includes 8 weeks of paid summer break.
About the role
APM offers services that help families achieve their greatest potential. As an ECE Teacher, you will nurture future leaders in our four Early Childhood Education centers, promoting cultural, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in the classroom. APM has been servicing the North Philadelphia community since 1970.
Responsibilities
- Carry out the daily activities of the classroom with assistance from the Teacher Assistant and other staff as needed.
- Prepare lesson plans and develop a culturally relevant educational program of classroom and group socialization activities.
- Complete all child developmental assessments and help identify children who may need developmental intervention.
- Help plan the child development or educational component of monthly parent training and group socialization meetings.
- Organize the classroom into specific learning centers with developmentally and culturally appropriate materials.
- Create a warm, inviting atmosphere for parents, children, and staff in the classroom.
- Provide individual home visitation services at least twice a year to understand the child’s home environment and assist parents in advancing child development at home.
- Attend and participate in pre-service and in-service training to increase knowledge of Head Start components and family strengthening.
- Provide education and training to staff and parents regarding child development and appropriate expectations through role modeling and direct training.
- Oversee the completion of all required record keeping, such as attendance forms, volunteer logs, meal participation sheets, and permission slips.
- Ensure all child development assessments, anecdotal records, and individual education plans are filed in the child’s confidential file.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- BS/BA in Early Childhood Education or related field, including 30 credits in ECE or Elementary Ed., and 18 ECE credits; OR any field with ECE certification; OR AA/AAS degree in Early Childhood Education, including 18 ECE credits.
- Two (2) years of experience working as a classroom teacher in early childhood education, preferably with a preschool population and working with families.
- Knowledge of and belief in the Head Start Family empowerment model.
- Knowledge of or experience working with at-risk children.
- Bi-lingual and bi-cultural in the Latino culture preferred.
