Head Start Early Childhood Education Assistant Teacher (Continuous Recruitment)
This position is within the UW Oshkosh Head Start program, a federally funded preschool program for low-income families. Classroom sizes are 15-16 children, with the school year running September through May or early June, plus additional August work hours for staff.
About the role
The Early Childhood Education Assistant Teacher works collaboratively to develop skills and practices that support school readiness for each child and comprehensive services for children and families. The program uses the High/Scope curriculum, Pyramid Model, and Conscious Discipline to support social and emotional development. Professional development opportunities and staff wellness initiatives are available, including individual/group reflective practice and Practice Based Coaching.
Head Start serves 384 children and their families annually across seven centers in Winnebago, Calumet, Outagamie, and Shawano Counties.
Responsibilities
- Maintains the safety and physical well-being of children in a designated classroom
- Assists with basic technical and administrative classroom support
- Documents effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to relay pertinent information and provide updates of child activities per established guidelines and regulations
- Updates and organizes individualized and developmental educational plans for children
- Assists with the planning and facilitation of classroom programming and classroom coordination and organization according to established curriculums
Requirements
- Completed or current enrollment in an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education program or a Preschool Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)
- If currently enrolled, the degree or credential must be successfully completed within 9 months of hire

Pay
$17.37 - $19.50 per hour
