Head Start Director

OCAP serves Bullock, Butler, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Lowndes, and Pike counties, working to address social and economic challenges related to poverty.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the Head Start program, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Develop and implement program policies, procedures, and goals aligned with OCAP’s mission.
• Manage program budgets, funding, and financial reporting.
• Supervise staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
• Foster partnerships with community organizations, agencies, and stakeholders.
• Monitor program performance, outcomes, and participant satisfaction.
• Ensure the program meets health, safety, and educational standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
• Minimum of five years of experience in Head Start or early childhood education, with at least three years in a leadership or management role.
• Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, federal and state regulations, and best practices in early childhood education.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Experience with budget management, grant writing, and program development.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within the service area.
• Must pass a criminal background check, including a Child Abuse/Neglect (CA/N) clearance.
