PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Aid in planning and implementing suitable learning experiences for children.
- Support the development of positive relationships between children and adults.
- Observe and document child development and progress.
- Supervise and participate in playground activities.
- Introduce new foods and reinforce proper eating habits.
- Maintain awareness of and care for daily child health needs.
- Operate necessary equipment and machines.
- Perform clerical tasks such as attendance reports and lunch counts.
- Model appropriate behavior as a role model.
- Attend staff meetings and inservice training.
- Assist with communication issues involving limited English proficiency or Spanish.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of child growth and developmental principles.
- Effective communication with children and parents.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Confidentiality regarding center-related incidents and information.
- Ability to communicate the program's philosophy to families.
- Stress management and ability to handle daily instruction and care of young children.
- Operate necessary program equipment.
- Positive attitude and ability to maintain cooperative relationships.
- Bilingual and/or bilingual ability is desirable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 20 pounds frequently.
- Sit most of the time, but may stand or walk for brief periods.
- Perceive the nature of sound, near and far visual acuity, depth perception, and manual dexterity.
- Handle and work with various materials and objects.
EDUCATION
- High School Graduate.
- Minimum of a valid Associate Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
- Associate Degree in Child Development or related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- One year paid experience working with young children.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
- Fingerprint clearance required.
- TB clearance required.
