Head, Special Collections Research, Engagement, and Instruction

Role Description

The Head, Special Collections Research, Engagement, and Instruction is a full-time, on-site role based at UNLV Libraries in Las Vegas, NV. This position leads the design, coordination, and assessment of research, teaching, and outreach services that connect learners and researchers with Special Collections and Archives materials.

Day-to-day Responsibilities

• Supervises and mentors team members
• Coincides instruction sessions that integrate primary sources into curricula
• Develops research support services for students, faculty, and community researchers
• Oversight engagement initiatives such as workshops, exhibits, and collaborations that highlight special collections and promote their use
• Collaborates with colleagues across the Libraries to align services with institutional priorities
• Manages related budgets and resources
• Contributes to strategic planning, assessment, and reporting

Qualifications

• Strong collections management and analytical skills to develop, organize, assess, and improve special collections research and instruction services
• Team management and leadership skills, including experience supervising staff, coordinating projects, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment
• Understanding of finance and budgeting practices to manage program resources, evaluate service costs, and support strategic planning
• Relevant experience in academic or research libraries, archives, or special collections, with knowledge of primary source literacy and research support
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty, and community partners
• Demonstrated ability to design and deliver instruction, workshops, or outreach activities integrating special collections materials
• Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program or a closely related field; additional coursework or experience in archives, history, or a related discipline is beneficial
