Core Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate the planning, organizing, and coaching of the team.
- Implement effective training and game strategies.
- Identify and recruit high-quality student-athletes who meet the academic and athletic standards of MVSU and the NCAA.
- Monitor and encourage the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA, SWAC, and University eligibility requirements.
- Prepare and manage the program’s operating budget, overseeing expenditures and adhering to departmental financial policies.
- Maintain strict adherence to all NCAA, SWAC, and University rules and regulations, ensuring staff and players are informed of all governing policies.
- Act as a primary representative of the program by engaging with media, alumni, and donors to secure resources and promote public support.
- Recruit, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and team managers.
- Cover home and away game arrangements, including scheduling, travel, and equipment needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Successful softball coaching experience as a head coach or assistant coach with winning programs.
- Ability to recruit and navigate transfer portal.
- Concern for academic and athletic preparation of student-athletes.
- Ability to establish good rapport and working relationships with student-athletes, coaching staff, administration, university personnel, and the general public.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the ability to comply with NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Successful head or assistant coaching experience at the collegiate level.
