Head of Wardrobe & Makeup – Blue Man Group North American Tour
About the role
Blue Man Group, part of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, is seeking an experienced Head of Wardrobe and Makeup for the 2026 A New Holiday Surprise Touring production. The Head of Wardrobe and Makeup is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and presentation of all costumes, wardrobe elements, and makeup standards for performers and crew.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Wardrobe and Makeup Department to achieve and sustain the desired creative standards of the production
- Prepare and set up wardrobe and dressing areas at each venue, ensuring all items are clean, organized, and performance ready
- Execute all pre-show, show, and post-show responsibilities including cue execution, quick changes, and resets
- Maintain and repair costumes, wigs, and wardrobe elements as needed, including laundering, stitching, and reordering supplies
- Manage and document inventory, costume tracking, and maintenance records throughout the tour
- Oversee and train local wardrobe crew at each venue, ensuring consistent standards of care, timing, and presentation
- Aid performers with wardrobe and makeup preparation, including bald caps, blue makeup, and musician makeup as required
- Manage makeup and skincare inventory, ensuring all products are safe, clean, and suitable for performer use
- Act as Wardrobe Supervisor for all outside events, press appearances, and promotional performances as needed
Leadership and Collaboration
- Supervise the Wardrobe and Makeup Department and coordinate with the Production Manager, Stage Management, and other department heads to ensure efficient scheduling and communication
- Participate in load-ins, loadouts, and cross-departmental setup and teardown activities as required
- Collaborate closely with Stage Management to maintain timing, performer readiness, and show flow
- Participate in post-show notes sessions and implement updates or improvements as needed
- Maintain discretion and professionalism in all backstage environments, including dressing rooms
Administration and Budget Management
- Oversee departmental purchasing, inventory, and budget in collaboration with the Production Manager
- Track expenditures, consumables, and repair needs; forecast reorders and replacements
- Maintain accurate documentation of costume builds, repairs, and maintenance logs for all venues
- Enforce Blue Man Group and CDSEG health and safety policies across wardrobe and makeup operations
- Maintain sanitary work practices and high standards of cleanliness in all dressing and makeup areas
- Promote a proactive culture of care, ensuring the comfort, confidence, and well-being of performers and crew at all times
- Address any issues related to product sensitivity, allergic reactions, or skin irritation in coordination with company management
Special Projects and Adaptation Support
- Support and execute wardrobe and makeup adjustments for special events, press appearances, and promotional performances as needed
- Perform venue evaluations and advance planning for upcoming tour stops
- Perform additional projects and duties as assigned by the Production Manager or Producer
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Costume Design, Wardrobe Supervision, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in wardrobe and makeup for live entertainment or touring productions
- Proficiency in costume maintenance, stitching, alterations, and fabric care
- Experience with theatrical makeup application and product management
- Experience managing local crews and wardrobe logistics in a touring environment
- Familiarity with Blue Man Group’s performance style and visual design is a plus
- Must be able to travel domestically for extended periods (Nov 2026-Dec 2026) and maintain eligibility for U.S. employment and travel
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, exempt touring contract offering a competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits during active tour periods.
