Head of Product, Applied AI
About Citizen
Citizen is the #1 safety app in the United States. Every day, thousands of videos are captured live at the scene of real incidents and delivered in real time to people in every major American city. Millions of people use it, and hundreds of thousands pay for it. Cities, hospitals, campuses, and private security buy the same real‑time intelligence through our enterprise products and API. The company is being rebuilt as an AI‑native organization, led by a founder who builds with agents himself.
Role Overview
You will be the Head of Product for all of Citizen: the consumer app and its core loops, the subscription business, the enterprise products and API, and the partner integrations that embed Citizen in city systems. You will own the product architecture, turning eight years of accumulated features into a coherent, sharp product that ships faster. You will build and operate a team of AI‑driven agents that perform the production work of product management, reporting directly to the Founder and CEO.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the product architecture to unify the consumer app, subscription flow, enterprise consoles, and API.
- Own the core product experience—including sign‑ups, activation, map, incident experience, live video, alerts, and habit‑forming loops—and drive Day‑1, Day‑7, and Day‑30 retention and weekly active use.
- Lead the subscription business: pricing, packaging, plan mix, trials, upgrade path, and checkout experience.
- Shape the enterprise, API, and partner side: product roadmap for real‑time intelligence, onboarding flow, API packaging and pricing, and integrations with city, hospital, campus, and security tools.
- Set and defend the product‑related metrics and forecasts that feed the revenue plan, collaborating with Finance on inputs and variance explanations.
- Design and run the end‑to‑end experimentation program: hypothesis generation, guardrails, analysis, and ship‑decision, maintaining rigorous standards.
- Build, coach, and operate the agent team that drafts discovery synthesis, competitive reads, spec drafts, experiment designs, forecasts, launch notes, partner documentation, and weekly numbers.
- Partner daily with the Founder/CEO, product designer, engineering leadership, Finance, Sales, Real‑Time Operations, and the existing agent workforce to align direction, delivery, and operational needs.
First 90 Days
- Days 1–30: Use the product daily in New York, pay for it, learn the funnel, subscription data, experiment history, enterprise pipeline, and codebase. Sit on the Mission Control floor and take over the weekly revenue read and forecast by month‑end.
- Days 31–60: Deliver the product architecture to the Founder—what Citizen is, what it is not, and what should be cut, merged, or rebuilt. Set the product agenda (consumer, subscription, enterprise bets), test roadmap, and forecast. Ship the first pricing or paywall decision and stand up the first agent‑run loop end‑to‑end.
- Days 61–90: Present a twelve‑month product plan with supporting numbers. Produce at least one test result that changes the plan and one agent‑run loop that no longer requires human touch.
Success Metrics
- Core product: Day‑1, Day‑7, and Day‑30 retention and weekly active use against a self‑owned plan.
- Consumer revenue: paid conversion, plan mix, ARPU, and subscriber retention against a self‑owned plan.
- Enterprise: live integrations, time from signed to onboarded, and customers served per team member.
- Forecast accuracy: monthly actuals versus forecast, with continuous improvement.
- Experimentation: number of tests shipped per month, clean reads, and decisions changed by results.
- Agent contribution: share of product production work carried by agents, with rigor maintained or raised.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership of a consumer product used by millions, with direct ownership of pricing, conversion, or retention and demonstrable impact.
- Experience consolidating a sprawling product into a coherent system—fewer concepts, clearer paths, faster shipping.
- Track record shipping to enterprise or B2B customers, understanding that the product, not the promise, is what ships.
- Hands‑on experience building with AI and agents, replacing parts of your workflow with automated tools.
- Strong quantitative skills: building models, configuring experiments, interpreting results, and spotting misleading data.
- Demonstrated ability to create something new from scratch rather than merely managing existing roadmaps.
- Excellent written communication: concise, data‑driven memos that end with clear recommendations.
- High agency: given direction, you return with a better one, decide, ship, and build missing tools.
- Leadership without a large team: setting high standards through personal work and building systems that amplify a small group.
- Deep commitment to the mission of safety and a desire to see the product in every country.
- Comfort making confident decisions with incomplete information and iterating based on founder feedback.
- Willingness to work in New York City, in the office, every day.
Application Instructions
In your first conversation, bring three things:
- One number you moved across an entire product and how you did it.
- One product you made coherent, including what you cut to achieve that.
- The agent team you currently run: what it does without you, what it does not, and what you would build next.
Be concise; we are listening for judgment, rigor, and your work style.
Compensation
Base salary of $265,000–$310,000 per year, plus meaningful equity.
