About the Role
Blacksmith Agency runs PPC and SEO for clients across multifamily, B2B, and technical verticals. As Head of Growth Marketing you will lead that department. The PPC strategist and the SEO strategist report to you and are the specialists in their channels. This is a management seat, not a senior individual‑contributor role. You will not be building campaigns yourself; your strategists will handle execution while you own channel strategy, budget allocation, and overall department performance.
What You Own
- Quality bar, development, reviews, and performance decisions for the PPC and SEO strategists.
- Standards for audits, pre‑delivery checks, and account reporting; you write them and enforce them.
- Client results across the function, including honest reporting and attribution/GA4 accuracy.
- Escalation handling when an account is at risk: diagnose, direct the strategist to fix, and join the client call.
- Channel strategy and budget allocation as accounts scale.
- Defining what the sales team can credibly promise before a deal is closed.
- Hiring plan for the department and conducting first‑round interviews for new team members within about a quarter.
What You Need
- 7+ years of experience across paid media and SEO, with depth in Google Ads, GA4, Search Console, Meta, and Microsoft Ads.
- Experience managing strategists or specialists, including conducting reviews, development, and performance‑management decisions.
- Proven ability to turn around an account, with clear before/after metrics and a solid diagnostic rationale.
- Comfortable serving as the client‑facing owner when an account underperforms.
- Agency experience handling multiple accounts simultaneously.
- Must have previously had direct reports and performed performance‑management; not a fit if you have only managed a single channel, worked in‑house on one brand, or prefer to continue building campaigns yourself.
Process
- 30‑minute screening call with a recruiter.
- First‑round interview with the founder to whom the seat reports.
- Final interview (no take‑home project or panel interview).
How To Apply
