Head of Finance

About the role

Located in NYC (3 days in office). Reports to the CEO. Trove is a collectibles startup that quickly reached profitability with a small team of talented, dedicated people. As the first full‑time finance hire, you will build the finance function from scratch and serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, helping responsibly unlock resources to meet aggressive growth goals while maintaining profitability.

Responsibilities

• Build the financial guardrails that enable fast, profitable growth.
• Establish a single source of truth for the core financial stack (starting in Excel, evolving to a scalable system).
• Create rolling forecasts and monthly profit reviews to support real‑time investment conversations.
• Uncover insights that help the company scale and keep the team aligned on key metrics.
• Partner with the CEO and leadership as a strategic finance advisor.
• Implement AI tools to transform the finance function.
• Operate as the first finance hire, building processes and systems from the ground up.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience owning FP&A.
• Background in e‑commerce or gaming with digital or physical inventory.
• Proven track record as the first finance hire, building the function rather than inheriting it.
• Experience successfully transforming the finance function through the implementation of AI tools.

Qualifications

Same as the requirements listed above: extensive FP&A leadership, e‑commerce/gaming finance experience, pioneering finance‑function builds, and AI‑driven finance transformation.

Skills

• Strategic, creative thinking with a bias for action.
• Ability to start simple and scale processes quickly.
• Strong partnership and communication skills to work closely with the CEO and cross‑functional teams.
• Proficiency with modern finance tools (e.g., Brex, Metabase, Digits) and a willingness to adopt new technologies.

Schedule

Hybrid role based in New York City with an expectation of three days in the office per week.
