Head of Finance
E2B · San Francisco, CA · 2 mo ago
Finance$300k–$320k/yrFull-time
About the role
This is the first finance leadership hire at E2B. The company went from $1M to 8-figure ARR in under a year, on a usage-based pricing model with customers ranging from individual developers to enterprise banks. Today, finance is a part-time job split across the founders and an outsourced accounting firm. As we scale, we need someone who has built the finance function at a company like ours before.
Responsibilities
- Own the finance function. Accounting, controllership, FP&A, treasury, tax, audit prep.
- Day one, you're the most senior finance person in the building.
- Make the accounting call. We're currently outsourced. Decide whether to bring it in-house, when, and at what scope. Hire the team if so.
- Build the FP&A model. Headcount, burn, revenue forecast, scenario planning. The model that actually drives hiring decisions and investor conversations.
- Own usage-based revenue accuracy. Our pricing meters compute, sandbox-time, and other usage signals. The data flowing from product telemetry to invoices to revenue recognition has to be airtight.
- You'll partner with engineering on instrumentation and with sales on contract structure to make sure invoiced revenue matches recognized revenue matches reported revenue.
- Run the close. Monthly close, quarterly board package, annual audit.
- Own investor relations operationally. Cap table maintenance, 409A valuations, equity grant administration, data room management.
- Partner with Vasek on next-round materials. Negotiate enterprise contracts on the financial terms. Payment terms, MDF, custom commercial structures, prepaid credits, multi-year deals.
- You'll be the partner for Sales calls when the deal needs creative structure.
- Build the bench as we scale. First a controller or senior accountant, eventually FP&A and finance ops layers underneath.
Requirements
- 8+ years in finance, with at least 3 years as the most senior finance person at a venture-backed B2B SaaS company.
- You've already done this job at our stage somewhere else.
- Direct experience with usage-based or consumption pricing. You've worked at a company where revenue is metered, not flat-rate.
- You know the gnarly parts: metering reconciliation, customer credits, prepaid commits, ramp deals, true-ups.
- Comfortable as the first finance hire. You're hands-on. You will personally close the books for at least the first quarter.
- Investor relations capability. You can walk into a partner meeting, speak to the model in detail, and answer the hard question without flinching.
- Prior fundraise experience required.
- CPA or equivalent technical foundation. You can defend ASC 606, you understand SaaS metrics math, and you don't need to outsource technical accounting questions to figure out what's right.
Nice-to-have
- VC or investment banking background before going operator.
- Experience scaling a finance org through company hypergrowth. You know what scale looks like and what to build now to make it easier.
- Multi-entity experience (US + EU).
- Familiarity with Stripe metering, custom invoicing systems, or consumption billing platforms (Metronome, Orb, etc.).
