Head of Events, Consensus
About the role
CoinDesk is seeking a visionary, dynamic, and business-minded Head of Events to lead, scale, and elevate its global events division, anchored by Consensus—the world's largest, longest-running, and most influential gathering where institutional finance, traditional capital markets, and digital asset pioneers converge. This executive role holds full strategic and P&L accountability for the events business, managing a high-performing team across operations, marketing, programming, and production. The position requires close collaboration with CoinDesk’s Executive Leadership, Sales, Editorial, and Product teams to align live experiences with commercial goals and editorial integrity. The mission is to defend and fortify Consensus’s position as the industry benchmark while driving audience acquisition and new revenue streams across traditional finance and emerging technology landscapes. This is a high-visibility opportunity to lead the premier global forum for the future of money and digital markets from CoinDesk’s NYC office, with a 4-day onsite requirement.
What You’ll Do
- Strategic Growth & Scaling: Design and execute a multi-year growth strategy for the events business, focusing on scaling Consensus attendance, expanding its global footprint, and launching new regional events or niche spin-offs.
- P&L Ownership & Commercial Strategy: Assume full financial accountability for the events business unit. Partner with the Sales team to architect high-value sponsorship packages, optimize ticket-pricing tiers, and maximize profitability.
- Audience Acquisition & Marketing: Oversee data-driven marketing campaigns to expand the event’s audience base, targeting traditional finance (TradFi), institutional investors, policymakers, mainstream tech sectors, and the core crypto community.
- Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Manage, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary events team (operations, logistics, marketing, content). Ensure seamless alignment with the Editorial team to deliver world-class programming that reflects current market trends.
- Vendor & Operations: Partner with Event Operations and Procurement to steer high-stakes vendor negotiations, venue selections, and technology stack integrations to ensure flawless, safe, and premium experiential execution for tens of thousands of attendees.
- Target Outcomes: Secure Consensus's year-over-year market dominance, achieve ambitious revenue and profit margin milestones, and successfully diversify the portfolio to hedge against crypto market cyclicality.
What You Have
- Professional Experience: 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in large-scale B2B conference production, commercial media, or experiential events, with a proven track record of running flagship events scaling over 10,000+ attendees.
- Financial Acumen: Proven experience managing multi-million dollar P&Ls, with a deep understanding of event economics, digital/physical hybrid infrastructure, and corporate sponsorship sales.
- Industry Context: Experience within tech, media, or financial services events is required; a strong familiarity with the cryptocurrency, blockchain, or fintech landscape is highly preferred.
- Behavioral Competencies: A charismatic, high-energy leader with exceptional executive presence, sharp negotiation skills, and the ability to remain calm and decisive under high-pressure, fast-moving environments.
- Tools & Systems: Advanced knowledge of modern event technology ecosystems (e.g., Cvent, Bizzabo, Hopin), CRM systems (Salesforce), data analytics platforms, and modern digital marketing stacks.
