About the role
We are seeking a Head of Engineering, iOS to own and scale our iOS mobile platform. You will lead end-to-end engineering execution for our iOS app, driving step-function improvements in performance, reliability, and user experience while establishing technical excellence across the mobile stack.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end engineering execution for iOS, from architecture and roadmap through delivery and reliability.
- Drive step-function performance improvements, targeting at least 50% reductions in app launch time, memory usage, and crash rates.
- Design and operate robust observability, metrics, and automated testing systems to ensure consistent performance at scale.
- Lead iOS execution rituals including daily and weekly standups, backlog ownership in Linear, and tight cross-functional coordination with Product, Design, and Backend teams.
- Translate product goals into clear dependencies, timelines, and deliverables to keep teams unblocked and shipping.
- Drive mobile EHR integration excellence, ensuring seamless integration with Epic Haiku, Epic HyperSpace, and other mobile EHR platforms.
Hard Requirements
- Founder-level ownership mindset. You operate like the business depends on your decisions and execution.
- Senior, hands-on iOS engineering ability. You actively design systems, write and review production Swift code, and set the technical bar by example.
- Deep iOS platform expertise. 7+ years of iOS development with Swift/SwiftUI, UIKit, and modern iOS architectures. Experience shipping consumer-grade iOS apps to the App Store at scale.
- Experience in high-intensity environments such as YC-backed startups, early-stage companies, or zero-to-one teams where speed and judgment matter.
- Mobile leadership experience. You've led iOS teams (3+ engineers) and own mobile engineering processes, release management, and cross-platform coordination.
- Comfort with ambiguity. You turn incomplete product direction into clear technical plans and ship without heavy process.
- Bias toward leverage and simplicity. You choose durable solutions and know when to optimize versus when to ship.
Key Results (First 90 Days)
- Take full ownership of iOS engineering. Establish yourself as the DRI for all iOS architecture, quality, and delivery decisions.
- Ensure end-to-end observability and alerting for core iOS workflows including note generation, medical assistant features, and EHR sync.
- Define key performance, reliability, and quality metrics for the iOS app (crash-free rate, memory usage, app launch time, user satisfaction scores).
- Identify and ship at least one high-impact improvement — whether performance optimization, memory leak fix, or critical user experience enhancement.
- Establish execution cadence, priorities, and quality standards including iOS release process, QA workflows, and automated testing infrastructure.
- Audit and improve iOS technical debt including architecture issues, memory leaks (IOS-307), and automation testing setup (E-6337).
