Head of DevOps and Platform Engineering

About the Role

Ares is hiring a Principal Software Engineer and Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud and DevOps crews. This senior role involves engineering foundational Cloud and DevOps solutions that support all Ares teams. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with proven leadership of large software engineering teams in a large-scale enterprise environment. Financial services experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide Agile Engineering Management across multiple crews (~40+ engineers).
• Lead Cloud and DevOps crews to build a modern, best-practice environment for hosting all Ares applications.
• Curate cloud services and create DevOps pipelines to improve software engineering practices for all Ares engineers.

Requirements

• 15+ years of software engineering experience.
• Detailed experience with Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Experience building and running large-scale DevOps environments.
• Comfort using AI for all aspects of software engineering.
• Prior experience managing teams of at least 50 engineers; experience with teams over 100+ is a bonus.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages.
• Multiple years of experience deploying software in the cloud (Azure experience is a bonus).
• Ideal candidates will have been the most technical person in their previous company roles.
• Financial services experience is required.

Pay

Anticipated base salary range: $250,000 – $300,000. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus.

Reports to: Global Head of Infrastructure and Platform Engineering.
