About the role
The Head of Data at Philo is responsible for leading and evolving the team of Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Data Analysts. This role involves owning all aspects of data at Philo, overseeing core data science work, ensuring the quality and performance of the data platform, collaborating with engineering and AI/ML teams, and managing the data team.
Responsibilities
- Own all things data at Philo: ensure stakeholders have access to timely and accurate data-driven insights.
- Drive product goals through product experiments and A/B tests, Growth & Acquisition modeling, and product insights, including customer journey analysis and content search/recommendation systems.
- Ensure the quality and performance of the data platform, including architecture, instrumentation, data collection/processing/validation, governance, and security and compliance.
- Build and deliver solutions directly for the service, spanning foundational data platform work and insights/modeling.
- Work closely with stakeholders across the company to understand business needs, build data pipelines, and deliver insights.
- Manage the data team: train, mentor, and coach team members, identify roles needed as the team grows, and hire talented individuals.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in analytics, data science, data engineering, or related fields, with significant experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Hands-on data science skills, including data architecture, statistical modeling in Python/R, A/B/n experimentation, SQL, and developing data-driven insights.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex data findings to various audiences.
- Understanding of business priorities and ability to partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment or ability to adapt quickly.
- Experience in consumer subscription, streaming, media, ad-supported products, or similar businesses.
- Experience with Machine Learning and Deep Learning is a plus.
