Head of Communications
About the Team
We are looking for a forward-thinking, high-impact Head of US PR & Communications to steer our US communication strategy and shape our national brand narrative. This role is tailored for a strategic leader who knows how to dream big when building a comprehensive roadmap, but possesses the down-toearth tactical grit to execute fearlessly on the tools every day. You will act as the principal architect of our annual communications plan, ensuring our corporate narrative aligns flawlessly with overall business growth, product milestones, and executive-level positioning. This is a high-autonomy role designed for an active practitioner with a "no task too small, no strategy too big" mindset. Beyond traditional media relations, you will ensure Turo's narrative remains robust across modern ecosystems, adapting our earned media and workflow strategies to align with next-generation search and digital platforms. You will champion our company purpose, foster deep cross-functional synergy, and translate complex marketplace mechanics into compelling national stories, all while caring deeply about team development and leading directly from the front lines.
Responsibilities
- Shape & Execute the National Narrative: Define and elevate the communication strategy for our peer-to-peer marketplace. Translate complex business dynamics, marketplace economics, and product levers into powerful consumer and corporate stories, pitching top-tier press personally to land critical features.
- Support Next-Gen Search & LLM Visibility: Partner closely with our SEO and digital marketing teams, using strategic earned media placements to bolster Turo's presence, citations, and authority within AI search platforms, LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini), and conversational engines.
- Digital Brand & Reputation Management: Proactively manage Turo’s online brand health across digital forums and modern search ecosystems, ensuring our public narrative remains accurate, positive, and aligned with corporate goals.
- Modernize PR Workflows: Intelligently integrate native AI and digital efficiency tools into the PR team's daily processes to streamline research, optimize distribution, and scale output while remaining personally close to the tools.
- Executive Positioning & Thought Leadership: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership. Partner closely with C-suite executives to build their public profiles, craft executive communications, and elevate Turo's authoritative voice within the industry via strategic speaking engagements and thought-leadership platforms.
- Set the Roadmap & Budget: Own the annual communications roadmap, resource allocation, and department-wide budget, taking full accountability for functional resilience and department-level ROI.
- Lead, Coach & Do: Develop, coach, and mentor the communications team, identifying growth opportunities and building healthy succession plans for key roles. Maintain a hands-on approach by remaining an active practitioner who handles daily execution alongside the team.
- Drive Cross-Functional Synergy: Foster seamless alignment and establish exceptionally high standards of collaboration across Marketing, Legal, Product, and Government Relations. Ensure regional product narratives and hyper-local supply/demand insights translate smoothly into unified corporate narratives.
Requirements
- Proven, Hands-On Leadership: 10+ years of progressive PR and communications experience, with a distinct track record of managing high-impact campaigns within tech, marketplace, or hyper-growth consumer sectors. You still love the craft of PR and enjoy being hands-on.
- Forward-Thinking Digital Literacy: A strong understanding of how modern search landscapes, AI platforms, and digital ecosystems interact with earned media, alongside an openness to adopting native AI tools to enhance team efficiency.
- Fearless & Agile Mindset: The ability to pivot rapidly in response to moving market dynamics, handle extreme pressure with a calm demeanor, and maintain absolute reliability across all public-facing communication channels.
- Marketplace Business Acumen: A sophisticated, structural understanding of tech business models, marketplace liquidity, and how macroeconomic levers or product changes impact overall brand health.
- Strong Roster of Media Relationships: A deeply established network of relationships with top-tier national business, tech, and consumer lifestyle journalists and influencers.
- Values-Driven Mentorship: A natural capability to lead by example and champion company values, explicitly mentoring the team on how corporate purpose and operating principles integrate into daily storytelling.
- Data-Driven Approach: Firsthand experience using analytics frameworks to turn complex data into strategic insights, measuring sentiment shifts directly against business growth metrics.
