Job Summary
The Head Men’s Tennis Coach provides management of the Men’s Tennis program. This role is responsible for recruiting prospective student-athletes, on-court coaching, serves as community relations liaison for the Men’s Tennis program to public, and monitor academic progress of student-athletes.
Core Responsibilities
- Be knowledgeable of and adhere to NCAA and conference rules.
- Makes sure the compliance to NCAA and conference rules and policies by assistant coaches is monitored.
- Recruits and selects quality student-athletes.
- Makes sure the satisfactory academic progress of student-athletes is monitored and necessary academic counseling is arranged through the Athletics Academic Counselor.
- Establishes eligibility of freshmen and transferring student-athletes and ensures continued eligibility of returning student-athletes.
- Conducts all practice sessions.
- Recommends grants of financial aid with the approval of the Athletics Director and the University Scholarships, Loans, Awards Committee, and Director of Financial Aid.
- Sets training rules for student-athletes and informs them about acceptable standards of conduct.
- Supervises sport budget and limits expenditures to the amounts officially approved by the University.
- Recommends game schedules and equipment purchases that will allow men’s tennis to stay within its approved budget.
- Recommends letter awards to the Athletics Director in accordance with approved lettering standards.
- Works with the Athletics Director in matters of public relations and promotions.
- Engages in fundraising activities for the Athletics Department.
- Interviews and recommends to the Athletics Director regarding the hiring of assistant coaches.
- Completes NCAA Squad List, Conference Eligibility List, and Conference Participation List.
- Executes an effective system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are followed.
- Represents UTSA at American Athletic Conference and national meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Three (3) years of related work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Compliance of NCAA, State of Texas, UTSA and American Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
- Organizational, Written, and Verbal Communication Skills.
- Independent Judgement.
- Discretion and Flexibility.
Physical Demands
- Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
- Physical activity in the sport of Men’s Tennis.
- This position will work primarily on campus.
- Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
