About the role
The Middle School Head Coach is responsible for developing and overseeing athletic programs for middle school students (grades 6-8). This role involves fostering a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and personal growth. The Middle School Head Coach will design and implement training programs, manage team activities, and ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes. In alignment with FUSD's commitment to educational equity, the Middle School Head Coach will prioritize providing resources necessary for success, removing barriers, valuing diversity, and empowering the community.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement advanced athletic programs and strategies that put kids first by providing necessary resources for success.
- Coordinate and oversee all practices, competitions, and events for middle school sports teams.
- Set goals and benchmarks for athletic performance in alignment with the school's mission and values, ensuring inclusivity and diversity.
- Provide high-quality coaching that focuses on advanced skills, tactics, sportsmanship, and inclusivity.
- Plan and conduct rigorous training sessions to prepare athletes for competition.
- Monitor and assess the progress and performance of individual athletes and teams, ensuring equitable opportunities for all.
- Ensure all athletic activities comply with school policies, state regulations, and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of safety protocols and conduct regular safety drills.
- Manage the health and safety of student-athletes, including first aid and emergency response procedures.
- Cultivate a positive and competitive team culture that promotes excellence, personal growth, and values diversity.
- Develop leadership skills among student-athletes and support their academic and personal development.
- Address and resolve conflicts or issues within the team promptly and effectively, ensuring an inclusive environment.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the athletic department, school administration, parents, and the community.
- Communicate program expectations, schedules, and updates clearly and effectively.
- Collaborate with other coaches, teachers, and staff to integrate athletics with the overall educational experience, empowering the community.
- Manage the team's athletic accounts and resources efficiently.
- Oversee the maintenance and procurement of athletic equipment and facilities.
- Engage in fundraising activities and seek partnerships to support the athletic program, ensuring equitable resource distribution.
- Stay current with the latest trends, techniques, and best practices in middle school athletics.
- Attend workshops, seminars, and certification programs to enhance coaching skills and knowledge.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of coaching experience with middle school or high school students.
- Strong understanding of advanced athletic training methods and competitive sports.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Certification in first aid and CPR, as well as any certifications required by the Arizona Interscholastic Association.
- Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and equitable athletic environment.
- Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance.
- Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination.
- Valid I-9 form.
Work Environment
The Middle School Head Coach will work in a school setting, involving both indoor and outdoor activities. Flexibility in working hours, including evenings and weekends, is required to accommodate practices, games, and events.
