Head Clinical Unit/Senior Lecturer
About the role
The Faculty of Dentistry is a world-class Oral Health Centre committed to the promotion of oral health through excellence of its Teaching & Learning, service rendering and research. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:
Responsibilities
- Teaching and training on the combined platform i.e. appropriate training, supervision and facilitation of undergraduate and postgraduate students,
- Implementation, monitoring and evaluation of appropriate teaching and learning practices,
- Rendering service to patients on the Oral Health platform at appropriate UWC sites,
- Stimulate and conduct research and produce publications,
- Mentoring staff in the department,
- Lead and stimulate Faculty and departmental community engagement initiatives.
Requirements
- Master of Dentistry (MChD) or equivalent Specialist degree in Prosthodontics,
- A minimum of 5 - 7 years post qualification experience,
- Experience in facilitating teaching and learning of undergraduate and postgraduate students,
- Experience in Staff training for advanced Restorative work and/ or other areas in Prosthodontics,
- Valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Prosthodontics,
- A broad understanding in all aspects of the specialty, and an excellent research record,
- Publications record.
Qualifications
- Minimum requirements for appointment as Head Clinical Unit/Senior Lecturer: Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning, research, postgraduate supervision and administration, in order to contribute to the Department’s academic objectives,
- Research and publications record, preferably in the field of Prosthodontics,
- Expertise in any of the sub specialty in the field of Prosthodontics,
- A record of successful postgraduate Masters supervision,
- PhD in the relevant field would be preferred in respect of Academic ranking of this post, but is not a prerequisite,
- Evidence of expertise, national standing, and where appropriate, an international presence in his/her discipline,
- Demonstrated academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, supervision and administration, in order to contribute to the Faculty’s academic objectives.
