Head Boys Varsity Basketball Coach
Summary Description
Serves as head basketball coach and supervises assistant coaches. Assumes responsibility for the junior varsity basketball program and its coaching staff. Cooperates with the principal in the selection, assigning, and evaluation of the basketball coaching staff. Fosters good school-community relations with parents, alumni, and fans by keeping the community aware of the progress of the basketball program. Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of practices, physicals, insurance, eligibility, and meeting all guidelines as prescribed by the Georgia High School Association and the Richmond County Board of Education. Expresses and exemplifies good sportsmanship and fair play, and instills these values in the players. Provides a disciplined and work-oriented environment for assistant coaches and student athletes. Cooperates with the administration in the enforcement of rules and regulations. Upholds the authority of officials who are assigned to the contests, and assists them in every way to conduct fair and impartial competitive contests. Assists college coaches, athletes, and parents who warrant the need for helping a student athlete advance to the next level of play. Maintain academic progress reports on all athletes and work with coaching staff in setting up tutorial and study hall sessions for athletes who are in need of these services.

Knowledge, Abilities, And Skills
- A thorough knowledge of the RCSS policies and procedures dealing with student athletics and thorough knowledge of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
- The ability to organize and manage a comprehensive athletic program.
- Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.
- Demonstrates a sound knowledge of basketball skills, strategy, and rules of the game.
Education, Training, And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and preferably 5 years of coaching experience.
Certificate And License Requirements
- Valid Teacher Certificate for the state of Georgia.
