Supervisor: Assistant Principal - Athletic Director

About the Role

The Head Varsity Coach supervises practice, contests, travel, equipment, and other requirements related to the sport. They ensure student safety and eligibility for participation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an accurate and updated list of supplies and equipment.
  • Submit a season wrap-up form to the Athletic Director within two weeks of the last contest, including major equipment/uniform needs.
  • Check in equipment at the end of the season and charge students for lost items.
  • Store and secure uniforms, equipment, and supplies within two weeks of the last contest.
  • Ensure each participant submits a physical examination form to the office prior to practice.
  • Collect insurance forms and training rules before the first practice.
  • Submit team policies to the Athletic Director.
  • Organize, conduct, and supervise practices throughout the season; notify the Athletic Office of practice schedules and changes.
  • Clear athletes from the gymnasium, locker room, and weight room before leaving the building.
  • Supervise students during practices and games, including locker rooms, gymnasiums, and gym lobbies.
  • Ride the bus to and from all contests.
  • Require participants to maintain acceptable standards of behavior and decorum.
  • Provide team and player publicity to local media.
  • Attend the end-of-season awards banquet and present season awards.
  • Establish written expectations for assistants and provide copies to coaching staff and administrators.
  • Develop comprehensive off-season programs.
  • Check eligibility each grading period and resolve discrepancies through the Athletic Director.
  • Provide all necessary information on time to appropriate offices (e.g., excused absence list prior to departure).
  • Accept additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Appropriate National and/or State Coaching Certifications.

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling.
  • Prolonged typing and physical ability to use a keyboard terminal.
  • Moving equipment as required.

Equipment/Technology

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn equipment related to the sport, computers, and other necessary technology.

Work Environment

  • Work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.
  • Handle routine interruptions; flexibility and patience are required.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.
  • After-hours work may be required.

Terms of Employment

Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
