About the Role
The Head Athletic Trainer oversees the health and well-being of student-athletes, focusing on injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. This role coordinates athletic training services for all athletic programs at Coahoma Community College, adhering to NJCAA, MACCC, and CCC policies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement injury prevention programs.
- Provide first aid and emergency care for athletic injuries.
- Conduct injury assessments and determine appropriate courses of action.
- Design and oversee rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
- Perform thorough evaluations of athletic injuries using appropriate diagnostic techniques.
- Maintain accurate records of evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation progress.
- Administer treatments such as taping, bracing, and therapeutic modalities.
- Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, nutrition, and overall health.
- Provide guidance and support to athletes throughout their recovery process.
- Collaborate with coaches to ensure safe return-to-play for athletes.
- Coordinate athletic training services for all sports programs.
- Manage the athletic training room, including inventory and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Develop and enforce policies and procedures for the athletic training program.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and medical professionals.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the overall success of the athletic department.
- Ensure compliance with state licensure, certification requirements, and relevant regulations.
- Stay current with developments in athletic training through continuing education.
- Coordinate health insurance processes related to billing and claims.
- Assist in drug testing procedures.
- Assist in developing the athletic training budget.
- Provide medical coverage for games, practices, summer conditioning, and camps.
- Supervise interns and/or other athletic training staff.
- Develop and maintain knowledge of NJCAA, Region XXIII, and MACCC rules and regulations.
- Inform the athletic director of life-threatening injuries, drug testing results, and other medical or mental health concerns.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Board of Certification (BOC) certified.
- Mississippi Athletic Training Licensure required.
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) Number required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an athletic trainer, preferably in a collegiate setting.
- Strong clinical evaluation and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.
Term: 12-month, full-time, non-exempt position.
