Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and emergency care for athletic injuries and illnesses.
  • Provide athletic training coverage for Middle School, JV, and Varsity athletic practices, competitions, and special events.
  • Conduct concussion baseline testing and support concussion management protocols for students in grades 5–12.
  • Cook up physician referrals.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, student-athletes, parents, coaches, Health Services, and school administrators regarding injury status, treatment plans, and return-to-play decisions.
  • Cook up emergency action plans for athletic venues and events.
  • Maintain safe athletic participation environments, including weather-related safety protocols.

Department / Operational Duties

  • Develop, maintain, and implement policies and procedures in accordance with BOC, NATA, SCISA, and South Carolina regulations.
  • Maintain athletic training records, medical documentation, and sports medicine equipment/supplies in compliance with HIPAA and school requirements.
  • Cook up athletic training coverage and medical support for athletic events and select away competitions as needed.
  • Participate in coaches’ meetings and preseason planning to support student-athlete safety and athletic program readiness.

Communication / Collaboration

  • Serve as a collaborative partner with Ashley Hall Health Services in supporting student wellness initiatives, concussion management, and continuity of care.
  • Build collaborative relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, physicians, and external healthcare providers.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited college or university.
  • BOC certification and South Carolina Athletic Trainer license through DHEC.
  • Current CPR/AED certification (BLS or Professional Rescuer).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a certified athletic trainer working with multiple sports; school-based experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of athletic training best practices, injury prevention, rehabilitation, emergency response, and concussion management.
  • Strong communication, organizational, documentation, technology, and professional judgment skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with female student-athletes in an independent school setting.
  • NPI number preferred.
  • Experience coordinating concussion testing and return-to-play protocols.
  • Familiarity with SCISA athletic requirements and documentation processes.
  • Experience collaborating with healthcare providers, school nurses, and multidisciplinary teams.
