Head and Neck Pathologist

Join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center as an Assistant Professor specializing in head and neck/ENT pathology. This role contributes to high-quality patient care through diagnostic expertise, education, and scholarly activity within a rapidly growing department that operates on a subspecialization practice model.

About the Role

The Department performs over 5.5 million tests and accessioning more than 56,000 surgical pathology cases annually across a wide variety of specialties. With a strong ENT surgery program handling approximately 2,000 cases per year, this position offers significant clinical exposure in head and neck pathology. The University of Kansas Health System is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, providing robust opportunities for clinical and translational research.

Tenure track appointments are full-time with an initial probationary period of seven years. Criteria for promotion include significant achievements in teaching, research/scholarship, and service. The Clinical Scholar Track is available for faculty heavily involved in clinical service, education, and related scholarship, with paths for Clinician-Educator or Clinician-Investigator.

Responsibilities

• Provide diagnostic sign-out in head and neck/ENT pathology and other assigned subspecialty areas.
• Perform general surgical pathology frozen section services.
• Contribute to the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Develop and support clinical and translational research projects in collaboration with departmental and institutional partners.
• Engage in departmental and divisional conferences, teaching rounds, and academic activities.
• Pursue ongoing professional development and maintain expertise in head and neck pathology and related fields.

Requirements

• MD, DO, or equivalent degree.

Preferred Qualifications

• Board certified/eligible in Head & Neck Pathology.
