About the role

As a Night Stocker, you’ll join a close-knit team in the Grocery or Drug Store department, collaborating to meet nightly goals and embracing the overnight work lifestyle. You’ll stock a large store footprint, gaining exposure to multiple products and departments—building skills that can open doors to other roles and a long-term career at H-E-B.

Responsibilities

  • Stock shelves and refill displays
  • Load, unload, and move heavy, bulky products; may unload trucks
  • Condition shelves and products
  • Learn and apply product knowledge (rotation dates, shelf and label info) to meet A+ Standards
  • Keep department clean and well-organized, including back room and shelves
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and leader direction with personal discipline
  • Meet federal, state, and company food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Work efficiently and collaboratively; maintain productivity standards
  • Accept and apply constructive feedback
  • May coach or train other Stockers
  • Operate with a team mindset, often working cross-functionally across departments (e.g., Curbside)
  • Model customer service and hospitality with customers and Store Partners
  • Assist customers in locating products and answering product questions

Qualifications

  • Age 18 or older
  • Preferred experience in stocking and customer service
  • Experience in physically demanding roles is a plus
  • Understanding of SOPs and emergency procedures
  • Strong communication and reading/writing skills
  • Strong organization and time-management skills
  • Customer service mentality and service-oriented approach
  • Ability to perform repetitive, physical tasks, including heavy lifting
  • Agility to think on your feet and adapt quickly
  • Team player who can meet nightly goals
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus as needed; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow SOPs and leader direction with personal discipline
  • Willingness to work overnight shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Forklift and power jack training provided upon hire

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented store environment. Physical demands vary by department:

  • Grocery: Constantly reach at waist and grasp; frequently stand, walk, bend; occasionally reach overhead, at shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements; occasionally exposed to cold, loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions; lift 50 lbs and manage loads over 100 lbs
  • Drugstore: Constantly reach at waist and grasp; frequently stand, walk; occasionally reach overhead, at shoulder, knee, or floor; bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements; occasionally exposed to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions; lift 66 lbs and manage loads over 50 lbs
  • Dairy: Constantly reach at waist and grasp; constantly exposed to cold temperatures; frequently stand, walk, bend; occasionally reach overhead, at shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements; occasionally exposed to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions; lift 86 lbs and manage loads over 100 lbs
  • Frozen: Constantly reach at waist and grasp; constantly exposed to cold temperatures; frequently stand, walk; occasionally reach overhead, at shoulder, knee, or floor; bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements; occasionally exposed to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions; lift 60 lbs and manage loads over 100 lbs
  • General Merchandise: Constantly reach at waist and grasp; frequently stand, walk, bend; occasionally reach overhead, at shoulder, knee, or floor; stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, climb ladder, pivot, twist, push/pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements; occasionally exposed to loud noise, ambient temperatures, and wet conditions; lift 60 lbs and manage loads over 60 lbs

Definitions: “Constantly” means 5.5+ hours per 8-hour day; “Frequently” means 2.5–5.5 hours; “Occasionally” means 0–2.5 hours. Partners must never lift beyond their safe limit; break down heavy items or request assistance when needed.
