Harness Engineer

About the role

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator focused on operational realism in testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms enabling routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver critical flight data to validate system performance and accelerate technology deployment. We collaborate with customers to drive innovations vital to national security.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and work with a diverse team of engineers to develop requirements, design, analyze, manufacture, test, and integrate avionics systems.
  • Generate requirements, design, and layout wire harnesses, creating production drawings and collaborating with machine shops and production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable.
  • Coordinate procurement internally and externally with suppliers, developing harness specifications and test procedures.
  • Support harness installation and functional testing, troubleshooting with manufacturing technicians, and supporting test planning, failure analysis, and hardware/software qualification and flight testing.
  • Develop and optimize packaging processes to improve yield and reliability, setting process monitors and pass/fail metrics.
  • Prepare content for and present at design and test readiness reviews, communicating regularly with Avionics, Structures, and Manufacturing Leads.
  • Quickly adapt to changing priorities and demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and commitment to fulfilling obligations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: wire harness design, mechanical design, avionics manufacturing, mechanical manufacturing, and/or aircraft systems.
  • Significant experience with electronics/avionics harness design and construction.
  • Experience with hands-on fabrication in an aerospace environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret wire schematics drawings.
  • Experience with technical aerospace work, including working with vendors.
  • Experience with risk management and critical path workflow.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to align with business goals.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Required Computer Skills

  • 3D CAD experience (Siemens NX and Teamcenter preferred, SolidWorks).
  • MS Office/365 Suite.
  • Configuration management systems such as JIRA, GIT, JAMA, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability & Assembly (DFMA) improvement efforts.
  • Experience with Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Experience reading, writing, interpreting, and/or redlining work orders.
  • Experience in troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).
  • Experience with hypersonic and/or supersonic vehicle development.
  • Experience with air-launched vehicle development.
  • Experience with composite structures design, analysis, and manufacturing.

Education & Experience

  • Level II ($101,000-$146,500): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) and 2-5 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Sr-level ($120,500-$158,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) and 5-10 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Staff-level ($157,000-$206,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) and 10-20 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special remarks regarding work environment

Position based onsite in Mojave, CA. Position may require alternative shift work and/or weekend work. Travel, if/as needed, to support the department (travel estimated to be 10%).
