Through multiple renovations and additions in recent years, the former Hardy Middle School site is being transformed into a first-class sports complex for the entire district. The project includes master planning for the existing school building, which has been unused since the 2020 pandemic and a subsequent flood of the electrical and mechanical system of the building. The project proposes a phased renovation of the existing building and the addition of a new Natatorium on the north end of the campus. The Natatorium will provide an eight-lane competition pool, as well as a diving well, creating a permanent home for the Jackson Public Schools swimming program. It will also support community swimming programs and is designed with the idea of hosting future state-level competitions in Jackson. The design includes locker room facilities, concessions, a multipurpose classroom for instruction and community events, and spectator seating for meets. Proposed renovations to the existing building include renovation of the north half of the building, which contains the auditorium, kitchen, a banquet hall, gymnasium, locker rooms, physical therapy trainers’ room, and spaces for wrestling and weight training.
