About The Team

DoorDash Labs is an independent team within DoorDash. We are working on building autonomous delivery robots from the ground-up and other automation solutions as part of DoorDash's core delivery hardware.

About The Role

We’re seeking a highly motivated Hardware Validation Engineer to verify and validate the system requirements for Dot, our next-generation autonomous delivery robot. In this role, you will develop and execute test campaigns to ensure our delivery hardware meets performance, safety, and regulatory goals. You will join our V&V team based in Oakland. This role requires occasional travel to test sites in California, Arizona, and Michigan.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and execute test campaigns to ensure our delivery hardware meets performance, safety, and regulatory goals.
  • Join our V&V team based in Oakland.
  • Work with hardware requirement owners to develop and execute robot system tests.
  • Validate the electrical, mechanical, thermal, safety, and sensing performance of the robot across a challenging breadth of environments.
  • Improve robot reliability through rigorous testing and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Work with leaders and engineers across DevOps, Software, Firmware, Controls, AI and Ops to plan, track, follow up and resolve issues.
  • Construct and maintain test tooling, fixtures, and documentation.
  • Lead test reviews and report out on test program progress.

Qualifications

  • B.S., M.S., or PhD. in engineering, e.g. robotics, mechanical, electrical or computer science.
  • 5+ years of industry experience working in automotive or mechatronics engineering testing & validation at the system level.
  • Hands-on experience with CAN bus & Ethernet data logging and analysis tools.
  • Experience with environmental testing such as thermal, shock, and IP testing.
  • A track record of managing complex, cross-functional projects and programs.
  • A working understanding of vehicle mechanicals and electronics.
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle perception systems.

Compensation

The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future. In addition to base salary, the compensation for this role includes opportunities for equity grants. Talk to your recruiter for more information.
