Hardware Engineering Manager - Optical Solutions
Our Optical Solutions team in Fremont, CA is seeking a Hardware Engineering Manager to lead the electrical engineering team within Molex’s Optical Solutions Business Unit. This role focuses on delivering high-speed electrical design for advanced optical interconnect products, including high-speed line cards, amplifiers, and optical systems. The position combines technical leadership, people management, and cross-functional collaboration to drive cutting-edge solutions for hyperscale data centers and next-generation optical networking systems.
About the Role
The Manager will oversee teams in two geographic locations and collaborate closely with global engineering and manufacturing teams. Molex provides high-performance wavelength management solutions, from components and modules to integrated line-cards, serving telecom, datacom, hyperscale datacenter, and supercomputing industries.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor electrical engineers; set goals and drive performance.
- Oversee electrical design for optical modules, backplanes, line cards, and optical interconnect systems.
- Ensure compliance with Molex quality standards and industry certifications.
- Drive signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC compliance.
- Collaborate with optical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams for NPI and production.
- Interface with customers and vendors for technical discussions and component selection.
- Represent the hardware team as technical leader in program reviews, gateway readiness reviews, and leadership updates.
- Align closely with global cross-functional teams on product design roadmaps and development status.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 8+ years in electrical hardware design, including 3+ years in leadership.
- Familiarity with IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, PCIe, I2C, SPI, and OIF standards.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Expertise in high-speed PCB design, SI/PI analysis, and simulation tools (HFSS, SI/PI).
- Experience with networking hardware, optical transceivers, or optical line cards.
- Project management experience.
- Knowledge of FPGA logic design and release.
- Knowledge of thermal management and packaging for high-speed systems.
Pay
For this role, we anticipate a salary range of $175,000 – $235,000 per year, plus variable pay such as monetary bonuses. Compensation may vary based on knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
