About the role
Join the Signal Integrity team at Microsoft, where you will design and validate Surface and Xbox devices for high-speed interfaces such as Memory (DDR), Serial Buses (USB, DisplayPort, HDMI), PCIe, MIPI, and more. This role focuses on delivering signal integrity compliance through test and measurement for cutting-edge Microsoft products.
Responsibilities
- Perform Signal Integrity test and measurements for high-speed bus standards on each product.
- Determine required industry test standards and specifications, test setups, and measurements; ensure tests are performed correctly, report and debug product issues, develop capabilities for new and emerging standards, and maintain test equipment.
- Lead, establish, implement, coordinate, and execute Signal Integrity test and validation plans throughout the product development cycle, track new industry developments, and maintain documentation.
- Conduct VNA and TDR measurements of PCBs, cables, and connectors, including high-precision board (PCB) probing.
- Review product electrical design, including schematics and board files.
- Create and execute SI test and validation plans for products through their development cycle.
- Perform compliance tests per industry standards, including electrical, interoperability, and protocol tests.
- Write test reports and develop test procedures for Signal Integrity testing.
- Debug product failures and test setups.
- Perform PCB rework.
- Maintain suitable test equipment.
- Track new developments in the high-speed industry regarding Signal Integrity compliance requirements.
- Review simulation data and interpret validation expectations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Qualifications
- A working knowledge of high-speed electrical design and RF principles.
- Experience with VNA measurements and a solid understanding of frequency domain measurement fundamentals (S-parameter extraction).
- Understanding and experience with TDR measurements.
- Experience and dexterity with micro-probing/board probing station for VNA measurements.
- Hardware re-working and soldering expertise.
- Experience with PDN measurements using VNA.
- Experience with Keysight PLTS software.
- Experience with High-Bandwidth scope measurements.
- Understanding of high-speed signal interface standards such as DDR, USB2/3, DP, HDMI, PCIe, etc.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- A team orientation with reliable interpersonal awareness.
- Strong communication skills – written and verbal.
- Proficient organization and documentation abilities.
Pay
The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $85,400 - $168,100 per year. A different range applies to specific work locations, including the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, where the base pay range is USD $111,100 - $183,700 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
