About the role
Mercury Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineer II to join our team in delivering cutting-edge technology for mission-critical aerospace and defense applications. This role involves designing high-reliability embedded hardware for space, airborne, and defense platforms.
Responsibilities
- Develop board-level digital circuits and modules that meet space-grade system and customer requirements, from concept through production
- Manage embedded hardware development activities including compute modules, storage modules, and high-reliability designs for space applications
- Design high-performance, high-reliability PCBs using processing and storage components qualified for space missions
- Analyze design quality through peer reviews, verification efforts, and thorough testing to reduce integration risk and ensure mission readiness
- Collaborate with manufacturing to address board build issues, support DFM/DFA/DFT activities, and participate in failure investigations
- Develop detailed schematics using tools such as Cadence DEHDL (Concept) and collaborate with CAD/SI teams during PCB layout
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
- Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant electrical engineering experience in board-level hardware design, manufacturing, or sustaining roles
- Experience designing embedded digital hardware incorporating microprocessors, FPGAs, or high-speed network components
- Proficiency in electronic circuit design, schematic capture, and troubleshooting of digital, analog, and power circuits; understanding of signal integrity fundamentals for high-speed digital design
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FPGA-based board designs or high-density storage devices
- Development experience with embedded high-speed interfaces (10G+)
- Familiarity with radiation-tolerant components and space derating guidelines
- Experience performing worst-case circuit analysis for space applications
- Experience with VITA 46/78 (VPX/SpaceVPX)
- Strong interest in space-grade electronics design
- Proficiency with Cadence Allegro for PCB analysis and design review
- Understanding of signal-integrity principles for high-speed digital boards
- Experience with requirements-management tools (JAMA, DOORS) or Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence)
- Knowledge of DFM, DFT, DFR, and cost-aware design practices
- Experience contributing to or leading small engineering tasks or work packages
- Knowledge or experience with radiation effects on electronic hardware (TID, SEE, etc.)
