Hair Color Bar Assistant, Licensed Cosmetologist
At Madison Reed Hair Color Bar, the Assistant Colorist supports Licensed Colorists and the Shift Lead to provide a seamless guest experience from arrival to departure while learning the services and working towards the next role. This role is ideal for someone passionate about beauty and hair color, with a focus on helping guests find the best color and executing services flawlessly. The Assistant Colorist becomes an expert on Madison Reed consultations, hair care products, shampooing and conditioning, blowout services, the unlimited roots membership program, and subscriptions while training for promotion to Licensed Colorist in 3-9 months.
This role reports to the Manager and can be full or part time, depending on business needs, with a requirement for availability during peak times. Compensation includes base hourly pay, commissions, and tips, with potential earnings ranging from $28–$30 per hour based on location, performance, tenure, and time behind the chair.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and develop teamwork skills to provide a guest experience aligned with Madison Reed’s values: Love, Joy, Trust, Courage, and Responsibility.
- Perform behind-the-chair services, including assisting in finishing services, shampooing and conditioning, styling, blowouts, hot tool styling, treatment and toner services, and add-on product application per guest request.
- Contribute to achieving monthly sales goals and key performance indicators, such as retail sales, services, and memberships.
- Ensure the Hair Color Bar meets company standards for cleanliness, merchandising, inventory, and asset security.
- Adhere to Madison Reed systems, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Drive revenue by increasing the average service ticket through additional services, sales of unlimited roots memberships, subscriptions, and home hair care products.
- Take a proactive approach to learning and complete the Assistant Colorist to Colorist Training, mastering color theory and developing behind-the-chair application skills.
Qualifications
- Active cosmetology license in the state of application.
- Entry-level experience in customer service or retail sales; salon or beauty industry experience preferred.
- Effective communication, strong problem-solving, and people skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable operating point-of-sale systems.
- Fluency in English.
Physical Demands
- Regularly stand and walk for four or more consecutive hours.
- Repetitive and regular bending and twisting at the waist.
- Manipulate fingers and hands, bend and reach wrists and arms, and reach with hands and arms.
- Move or lift up to ten pounds; occasionally sit, kneel, stoop, crouch, push, or pull up to ten pounds.
- Communicate regularly with guests via ongoing conversations and consultations.
