Habilitative Specialist
About the Role
Habilitative Specialists are agency employees hired to provide support and care for adults with disabilities enrolled in the agency’s program. The clients’ support services are served in their own homes in local residential areas. Habilitative Specialists will provide respectful support using the least restrictive measures while meeting all program safety and supervision requirements.
Responsibilities
- Successfully complete all DDA/WAC required trainings delivered by the company (HCA, therapeutic options, nurse delegation/diabetes, first aid/CPR, continuing education).
- Provide various types of living skills instruction and support services to clients.
- Implement successful medication passes following rules and regulations (prescribed medication, PRNs, controlled substances) per WAC 388-101D-0295 to WAC 388-101D-0365.
- Track clients’ Cash on Hand (COH), including counting money, tracking receipts, filling out ledgers, and handing off to the next shift.
- Encourage, assist, and/or accompany clients with community access and integration (outings, shopping, appointments).
- Perform client tracking, including ISP tracking, time tracking, and reporting incidents (GERs, T-logs) through proper channels.
- Complete thorough cleaning each shift based on the agency’s cleaning checklist; graveyard shift is responsible for deep cleaning the home.
- Share responsibility for housekeeping tasks and seasonal yard work/maintenance not completed by clients.
- Familiarize yourself with posted emergency information, safety materials, and protocols.
- Encourage clients to engage in a healthy lifestyle, suggest healthy meal choices, and assist with meal preparation.
- Assist clients with hygiene per their PCSP and IISP (peri care, showering, shaving, nail trimming).
- Read, acknowledge, and follow all clients’ plans in the home to ensure successful support services.
- Perform and follow safety protocols, including drill schedules.
- Model and coach appropriate social skills consistently.
- Provide transportation to clients, following all laws (seat belts, safe driving, no phone use) and submitting proof of auto insurance; mileage reimbursement provided monthly.
- Move temporarily or permanently between homes based on schedules, staffing, or clients’ needs as assigned.
- Attend additional training hours (handouts, staff/house meetings) as required.
- ARS will pay basic renewal fees for CNA, HCA-C, and NAR licenses and provide CE training for mandatory 12-hour certification maintenance.

Work Environment
This job operates in the client’s home and may occasionally expose the employee to outside weather conditions.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Very active position requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the shift.
- Frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds without restrictions.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Schedule
This is a full-time and/or part-time position. Days and hours of work are defined by the schedules provided. The Habilitative Specialist is required to check their schedule daily using the agency’s scheduling software.
Travel
Some travel is expected for this position.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years old or older.
- Must have a minimum of two professional and one personal reference.
- Must be mentally and physically capable of working with clients who may be physically challenging and/or aggressive.
- Must act respectfully and professionally, treating clients with dignity and respect at all times.
- Must pass a drug and alcohol test.
- Must complete and submit a Washington State Background Check Form with BCCU clearance.
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend written instructions and policies.
- Requirements may change due to the nature of the clients served.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
