Promotes and nurtures the education of students by working collaboratively with parents and fellow educators in planning and tailoring courses of study in music.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement instruction to ensure that all students meet and exceed the State Music Standard in the three broad strands of the Create, Relate, and Evaluate.
  • Emphasize experiencing music education within the cultural context of the arts as well as the traditional components of music.
  • Provide a variety of learning experiences so that students demonstrate skills and concepts learned through performances, portfolios, and various communication mediums.
  • Engage learners in differentiated learning experiences for a range of skill levels and developmental needs, managing multiple instructional activities simultaneously when appropriate.
  • Coordinate music instruction with other teachers and assist classroom teachers with integrating music into the instructional program.
  • Review and recommend modifications to the music curriculum periodically to align with Arizona Music Standards and Core Knowledge sequence.
  • Plan and supervise three quarterly community celebrations with visual arts and physical education teachers.
  • Provide and supervise opportunities for students to demonstrate skills and talents, including events outside normal work hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Instruct students in the proper and safe use of music equipment and materials.
  • Prepare orders for music supplies and equipment within the approved budget and maintain an inventory of all supplies.
  • Maintain music equipment in safe working condition.
  • Recommend budget needs to the Principal or designated supervisor.
  • Serve as a role model by cultivating personal musical talents and creating musical work.
  • Mentor students with behavioral and/or academic difficulties.
  • Organize and supervise approved field trips to enhance classroom learning.
  • Organize and supervise community music events with the Paideia Family Center.
  • Maintain classroom order by adhering to school-wide and classroom discipline guidelines.
  • Consult with professionals regarding learning disabilities, drug/alcohol abuse, social adjustment, or child abuse.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy educational environment by following standards and legal regulations.
  • Counsel students with academic difficulties and utilize school Response to Intervention (RTI) resources.
  • Keep parents informed through records of music performance, attendance, and social acclimation, reporting at parent-teacher conferences.
  • Provide student support services by monitoring halls, playground, and lunchroom, and sponsoring student organizations or activities.
  • Update job knowledge by attending faculty meetings, participating in educational opportunities, and maintaining professional networks.
  • Enhance the school's reputation by accepting ownership for new requests and exploring opportunities to add value.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music.
  • Teacher Certification.
  • Passed the AEPA in the content area; SEI Endorsement preferred.
  • Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Excellent experience teaching diverse students in music, unless entering through an alternative certification program.
  • Experience teaching struggling students of diversity.
  • Working knowledge of Arizona state standards in Music.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a high-stakes environment.
  • Outstanding instructional skills, including motivating and challenging students while maintaining classroom order.
  • Demonstrated expertise in music instruction.
  • Strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement.
  • Belief that all students should be held to high academic and content standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.
  • Positive attitude and drive for personal excellence.
  • Problem-solving ability.

Physical Demands

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Perform tasks involving carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Require significant fine finger dexterity.
  • Regularly sit, walk, and stand as part of usual job functions.

Pay

$50,000 - $62,000 yearly salary plus a $2,000 signing bonus.
