GYN Medical Asst Proceduralist / MA

About the Role

Assist with office-based procedures following aseptic technique, hand off instruments, assist with obtaining, labeling, and sending specimens, perform low and high-level disinfection procedures, perform point-of-care (POC) testing, and enter orders into the computer. Room patients and set up exam/procedure rooms in an outpatient care setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex medical assistant clinical duties, including taking vital signs, administering limited medications per Emory Clinic policy, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms.
• Assist physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures in exam/procedure rooms.
• Prepare exam/procedure rooms by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment; obtain special supplies as indicated by the physician.
• Accountable for the care and handling of instruments and equipment.
• Assist in the preparation, transportation, and positioning of patients for procedures, ensuring physical comfort, safety, and privacy.
• Observe patients for symptoms indicating a change in condition and report to the medical team for immediate action.
• Demonstrate thorough knowledge of sterile technique and infection control; practice appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment.
• Chaperone and assist with every patient intimate examination.
• Perform accurate point-of-care (POC) testing.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic computer skills required.
• One year of work experience preferred.
• Current Medical Assistant Certification in one of the following:
  • American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  • National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• Current AHA BLS certification required for hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
• Must successfully complete all medical assistant orientation, training requirements, certification, and annual skills competency.
