Gymnasium Supervisor - PT

About the role

The Somerset Hills YMCA is seeking a Gymnasium Supervisor to engage, mentor, and supervise teen and young adult members in evening and weekend shifts. This position is integral to the Y's mission of strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and positive relationship building within the gymnasium.
• Model the YMCA's core values and uphold safety expectations.
• Facilitate basketball and other sports programming, acting as a referee when necessary.
• Create a culture that champions tolerance and acceptance of all backgrounds and dimensions of diversity.
• Prevent and address instances of bullying, harassment, or intimidation.
• Address member concerns as the "first point of contact," providing solutions and documenting outcomes.
• Engage members and build relationships throughout the shift.
• Complete an end-of-shift report and submit it electronically to the Sports Coordinator.

Requirements

• At least three years of member/customer service, hospitality, or related experience.
• Knowledge of basketball and other sports programming is a plus.
• A high school diploma or equivalent education.
• Ability to work without direct supervision, lead others, make quick decisions, and work as a team while being reliable, flexible, and adaptable.
• Competence and confidence to supervise a safe environment for all members.
• Above-average communication and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of YMCA policies, procedures, and best practices in an adaptable format to a "member first culture."
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification upon hire (training provided).
• Skills and willingness to assume a visible, welcoming presence in the facility.
• Physical stamina and agility to stand for extended periods.
